GT Sophy

In 2020, a team of engineers and researchers at Sony set out to develop an AI agent (GT Sophy) trained to compete against the world’s best Gran Turismo drivers. Sophy represents a breakthrough in artificial intelligence — demonstrating how machines can learn not just to execute tasks, but to adapt, strategize, and perform at the highest level.

The film was created to translate this complex technical achievement into a clear and engaging story, focusing on the people behind the research and the process of bringing Sophy to life. By grounding the technology in human curiosity and experimentation, the project helped establish Sony AI’s identity and mission at launch.

Following its debut at Sony AI’s global press conference, the film was met with strong internal and external response, establishing a new public identity for the organization and helping introduce its research to a global audience. The success of the initial release led Sony to expand the project into a three-part film series, exploring the development of Sophy in greater depth and highlighting the broader vision behind Sony AI.

The series went on to become a finalist at Tribeca X, recognizing its ability to translate advanced artificial intelligence research into compelling cinematic storytelling and positioning Sony AI as a leading voice at the intersection of technology and creativity.
